Merchants and Grocers

The heart of the Parliament district was a hive of activity: merchants and grocers brought the streets of a fast-growing city to life. These stone shop-houses, with their large paned windows, embodied the typical architecture of 19th-century Montréal. Grocers kept shop nearby on McGill Street, living and doing business under the same roof.
